Up

My dad phoned at 10pm last night, urging me to go out and have a look at the moon. I'm glad he did as we got to see Jupiter and Venus also. The photo came out a little distorted. So trust me when I say those squiggly lines are Jupiter and Venus - only happens every 6 years.

PUBLIC OPENING..

The opening went really well. I sold before the show even opened which was a shock - and received some great feedback. Plus they've expressed interest in wanting me for 2 shows next year and to represent. Head spinning......

If anyone is thinking of going down for a look - let me know. If I'm free I'll happily meet you down there for a coffee:)

VIP Opening..

Last night Jem and I went to the VIP opening at Manyung. It was more of a get together for the Artists before the public opening tonight I guess. It was also such a pleasure to finally meet Simone Maynard IRL. She was just lovely. You can check her art blog out here!

Oh, I've already sold a painting too ;)

Come along!

Bob Begins....

Well I've just completed the initial sketch for the painting of Bob Franklin for Archibald 09. I've decided to go much smaller this time around, using a canvas of about 50x 70cm. I'm pretty happy with the sketch and am looking forward to jumping in now!

Joe Sorren

The Dance of All Hallow's Eve - Joe Sorren

Joe Sorren is without a doubt one of my favorite artists today. His work is so wondrously tender, surreal and innocent. If you're not familiar with his work then get yourself to his website pronto! Or Check out his blog - which sometimes has WIP shots, exploring his artistic process..

Joe was also kind enough to recently take a look at a work of mine that will hang in my November/December show. I was really appreciative that he took the time to offer his opinion - which was a thumbs up by the way:) Phew!

Sorry for lack of posts. Have been flat out painting the past week and am so close to finishing! So as soon as they're done I'll post 'em all! Stay tuned....

Took these on the way to work this morning..

Mooned in the Morning

On my way out this morning this got my attention - I was thrilled to discover the camera picked up the craters...

Morning

This morning Jem and I had to get up extra early (which is VERY early) to take my car to the mechanic. The sky was just amazing - so I took a quick pic from under the carport.

Progress...

I'm getting there - I need to complete all 7 paintings done by end of the month. As soon as I get home from work it's painting time (usually 3 hours per night). Some nearly done, and others need a lot more love and attention. Will post some pics once they're all done - end of the month.

Meantime it's paint! paint! paint!

Monday 6 October 2008

Done...ish

Pretty much finished this one over the weekend. I'll prob do some further highlights/shading on the hair and paper crane.

Music to paint to..

A couple of other blogs I frequent are doing this - so I thought why not just blatantly copy them:)

Music plays a BIG part in my life. I'm incredibly passionate and fussy about the music I listen to. Here are some clips of musicians I love to paint to..

Martha Wainwright

Pixies

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Lamb

Kings of Leon

The Concretes

She and Him - Zooey Dechannel

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

The Clash

Plastic Bertrand

The Ramones

The Breeders

Fabienne DelSol

The Shins

The Black Keys

The Gossip

The Felice Bro

The White Stripes

John Lee Hooker

The Naked Truth

In this day and age it's pretty damn alarming to learn that some people still get quite uneasy about nudity in art. I honestly don't get it. What is so offensive about a naked body? To be offended by a naked body is to be offended by the human form. Are they ashamed of their own bodies? Do they shower with their eyes closed or ensure the bedroom is pitch black on occasion. I feel sad for and pity those who take issue with nudity in art, as they're missing out on the wonderful masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance for one. There is nothing more honest, insightful, vulnerable and beautiful than the naked form.

Watch the Birdy!

Last night was an absolute blast. I went to Dr Sketchy with the wonderful Michelle and was entertained, astonished and blown away by.........The Birdmann. This guy was an absolute crack up. Anyway here are some sketches...

More WIPs

Still early days with these - though you get the idea of where they're heading:)

Tuesday 23 September 2008

WIP

Ok, there's still a bit to do on this one. The origami wasp needs a heaps of detail applied - the horizon line will be lighter/faded and the girl's hair will be textured with highlights etc.. Anyway this series has a touch of Pop Surrealism and is basically me unleashing my imagination:) Bit nervous about this brief departure from usual style.

Monday 22 September 2008

Progress...

I started 3 newies over the weekend. Always boring painting the initial stages - I'd love to be able to fast-forward to a later stage past the under-painting. They are to be incredibly detailed pieces. So I look at the under-paintings and think "Man there's a long way to go".

Recharge

I had a much needed weekend of rest and relaxation. It was wonderful to just laze about and enjoy the sunshine. I think I'm pretty much re-energized now. So am all ready to tackle another big week. Tonight Panting!!

Crabby!

I'm pretty tired and crabby this week. Have been up most nights doing freelance design work. The work isn't too bad, though I really need to get more painting done. Things should be quieter next week - so much painting will be done!
