WIP - still plodding along with this one..

This one is taking a while unfortunately. I really have to finsih it soon, as I have about 11 more paintings to do by November. So I really need to get my butt into gear! Well here are a couple of pics of the painting so far. Ignore the umbrella, as I haven't really attacked it yet. There will also plants and shrubs along the bottom....soon hopefully! Oh, and they're terrible quality photos as always:)

Animated Progress

Just as an experiment I've used a couple of WIP pics from my drummer painting (which is still yet to be finished) and made then into an animation showing it's progression so far.

Check it out here..

Support Community Radio!

I hate commercial radio. I mean I detest it! Nothing makes me more angry than the mind numbing banter of a commercial radio breakfast team. The endless commercials, forced laughter and the god damn bad music are enough to make one scream with rage! Well that's where 102.7 Triple R comes in. It's a totally non-profit Melbourne radio station that's been in operation since the 70s. It's currently their radiothon time - where they ask their listeners to subscribe or re-subscribe to help fund them for another year:) They are a big supporter of the local arts and play a big role in providing free thinking non-bias discussion. They are also a fantastic alternative to such verbal diarrhea as Kyle and Jakie-O and the like... So Subscribe today!

weird night!

I had a very weird night last night. We went to a friend's new house in Elwood for dinner. Well the first hour went swimmingly. However during the second I managed to nearly faint! Yes, faint! I think it occurred due to a combination of their extremely well heated house coupled with my layer upon layer of winter clothing. As I said a weird night.

Well pre-fainting before we left for dinner last night, I managed to do a little more work on the face in my new WIP. It's a very intricate face, so a steady hand is a must. Lucky I didn't faint then! Well here's a little more development on the face...

WIP - part 2

I am loving painting this one. I think it's the freedom of painting a massive infinite sky that appeals to me. I only started the figure yesterday - so there is still much work required there. Once the figure is complete I will put the trees and shrubs at the bottom - this will also make her look less like Mary Poppins flying down with her Umbrella:) Here are a few pics - it's such a large one it was quite hard to take a good photo...

WIP - the very start of another...

I've started transferring the concept and layout from this rough sketch onto canvas. The finished painting will be quite detailed in comparison to the simplistic sketch. It doesn't really look like anything much at the moment, though it is a start none the less. I've basically made some progress with the sky - and will hopefully begin painting up the figure within the next couple of days once the sky is satisfactory. This photo only shows a portion, as the canvas is way too big to fit into frame.

Archibald 2008!

I'm quite excited at the moment as I've just received an email informing me that the very talented Santo Cilauro has kindly agreed to sit for me. This will be my first attempt at the Archibald, and I honestly couldn't hope for a better subject. I will keep you all updated as this endevour progresses.

WIP - a face starts to form..

I didn't do too much painting on the weekend. Though I did manage to make a start on the Geisha's face detail. I've basically mapped out the position of her eyes, nose and mouth. The next step is to build up some rich detail..

A little more progress....

I tried to do some more on this one last night, though the first coat was still quite wet. I did apply some more white to the face, however I doubt you'll notive at this stage. I may have to leave this one for 5 days before I can progress..

Self Portrait Wednesday

This pic is actually a big con - as I'm holding the camera in one hand while pretending to paint with the other. Wankarama:)

Planning my next....

Last night I started sketching to help spark ideas for my next painting. After numerous sketches I came up with a layout I quite liked. I admit it's a touch simple, though I think it'll work quite well on a huge canvas. I'm buying the canvas today - basically it'll be the biggest one I can fit in my small car:)

Here's the final sketch I did with a water colour wash over the top:

WIP - rough under-painting

Last night I applied the rough under-painting to my latest WIP. The first coat always seems like a chore. It really bares little resemblence to the final product, serving only as a rough base to apply the 'meat' of the painting on. I've included a pic here of the under-painting. It's intentionally small, as the under-painting is as 'rough as guts'.

Another on the go! WIP

My plan is to have 4 paintings on the go this month. So on the weekend I made a start on the 2nd one. It's just a basic sketch so far - though I'm hoping she'll get some paint tonight. Then Later this week I hope to start a 3rd one.

This pic is only a portion of the overall rough sketch...

WIP - Progress

You probably wont notice any difference between this pic and the one posted a couple of days ago - though rest assured more work has been done to it. I promise:) Oh, and ignore the light reflecting from the drum. Still a heap to do on it...
