Sometimes it's just so hard to find the time to paint. The worst thing is when time does become available and you're too exhausted to do anything about it. Seems to be things always crop up and foil painting plans when least expected. Obviously such things can't be avoided, though it would be nice to have a whole week of solid painting! Now that would be great:) I guess I'll have to accept that I'll be squeezing in painting time when possible for quite some time. It just makes one wonder how much work and artistic development would occur if full time painting was realised.Thursday 24 May 2007
Finding the time..

I can honestly say that an hour a day makes a HUGE difference to the speed at which you develop.
Lately I'm finding it difficult to get that though. Some days it's 30 mins, other days a few hours. Friday is paint-a-rama.
At some point, it might be beneficial to take a month off work and paint every day - make yourself do it - even when you don't want to.
The benefits include having a larger body of consistent work to show, and being a faster painter. These days I get more done in my 30 minutes than I ever would have dreamed of 2 years ago. I even dashed off a small oil that is almost complete today while I was filling in time. It just makes you feel som much more relaxed and comfortable when you do get the time.
I can so relate - these days I am just aiming for an hour a week. It's not enough; I am constantly longing for time to paint. I have taken the occasional week off work to give myself concentrated painting time and have been thrilled with what I have been able to achieve.
One thing I have done to cope with the not enough time to paint problem, has been to commit to weekly life drawing - at least then I know I am getting some weekly practice.
The other good thing about not having enough time to paint is that it makes the idea of getting older and retirement seem pretty darn good :)

I like your taking a month off idea Michelle! Now that would great! I guess I feel we're working against the clock -and must do the best we can by making the most of the time we have.
a reason to paint - you're right about retirement! The first upside of seen in it!
