After many hours of painting last night I finally got to know my paint! We'd had a troubled relationship early on, though despite our differences I think we now truly understand each other:) Acrylic paint and I are now friends! I've finally worked out how to blend effectively and am happy with the results I'm getting. I now know this painting will work! Still so much to do - as the past five days were spent sussing out how to best use Acrylic paint. Here's a quick pic - note the face has a long way to go - though the face is becoming more textured as different layers are applied, and soon this woman will have a full face - warts and all!

Around the clock painting!
I Spent the weekend painting my butt off! Being a water colour painter, I found it quite exciting and challenging to start painting a large canvas using acrylic. I've spent about 12 hours on it so far (you wouldn't know it), and am sure I'll have many more hours to go! I've just bought a bottle of gloss medium and varnish, so hopefully this will improve my blending. I think it's coming together - and with any luck it'll be one of my four submissions for Canterbury.
Still much to do......

Going well...
Had a great night of painting last night. I was dreading starting the glass in the painting, though was quite surprised at how well it went. I splashed on some white water colour for the white parts of the glass, and it worked a treat. Before I knew it, it was time for me to get my butt into bed. Still much to do though.....

update
I so haven't done as much I hoped. The weather has been sooo hot and our flat like an oven. I know, excuses! Well here's an update of the ink painting I'm doing...

Canterbury Art Exhibition
I recently received an email inviting me to exhibit at the Canterbury Art Exhibition! I'm so excited! I have a great feeling about this exhibition, and just know something good will come of it:) I have to thank Lauren Perkins for giving me a much needed kick up the backside, and recommending that I have a go at the Canterbury Art Exhibition as a first step in taking my art seriously.
I will be sure to post regular updates of possible entries as they progress.

Gravity!
What a damn hot weekend it was! Our small flat was pretty much an oven and us burned to a crisp in it. So hard to be bothered doing anything, though I did make myself paint. I admit not for long - though I did get quite a lot of my ink painting done. Sunday night however I sat in front of the fan and drew this weeks Illustration Friday - GRAVITY.

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Self-Portrait Wednesday
Here's a happy snap from the weekend just past. Little Holly is not my baby, though I think we got a long just fine regardless.
CRASH!
Last night I quickly did a cartoon for 'Illustration Friday. I had another concept in mind, though this one kind of drew itself. Enjoy:)

Ink about it
While looking over photographs of Christmas just passed, one stood out from the others, instantly taking my interest. It's of my Aunt's partner 'Les', and inspired me to get out the ink! I love painting with ink. So fine and soft, it really allows a free flowing flexibility that no other medium can give. Once starting this piece, I really found it hard to stop. Mind you there's still a long way to go, though I'm really happy with my progress so far. I haven't told Les I'm painting him yet, though can guarantee he'll be thrilled by the attention!

Self-Portrait Wednesday
I only have my crappy mobile phone camera today - so here's a quickie I took in the bathroom mirror - I know it's terrible quality - but hey, what can you do?
Ideas sprout to mind

Uni Axed!
After much thought I have decided to put my honours on hold this year and concentrate entirely on my painting. Frankly the thought of writing another 3000 word essay makes me contemplate head-butting the wall repeatedly. I have just informed the university of my decision, and suddenly feel quite free and relieved.

Working Girls!
Late Saturday afternoon I took a drive down the seedy end of Carlisle St in St.Kilda to take a quick photo of one of it's street corners. This street corner will feature in my painting, and will house a couple of working girls (who usually frequent this area). This piece will highlight the seedy side of St.Kilda and city life in general. I've only done the base really, though hope to put the detail in this week. Here are some pics of my progress so far - sorry about the quality. These were taken with my mobile phone camera:)

Miss Sugar Puss!
For the 'Working Girl' on the right, I'm using a sketch I did recently at a life drawing class for inspiration. Here is the sketch:

The Love Generation
I recently had the pleasure of attending the opening of Melinda and Michelle’s fantastic art exhibition ‘The Love Generation’. Their works were so amazing up close, full of immense colour and vitality. Michelle’s works in particular were wonderfully textured, with much colour bursting from the canvas. The figures in her works all seem to have a story behind their gaze, though it is up to the viewer to determine what that story is. I was so impressed by Michelle’s work that I couldn’t help but snatch up a collection of small ones for myself. Rest assured these paintings will sell fast!
