Last night I thought I'd at least make a start on the my final Geisha painting. I stress this is a VERY rough first layer, though I can now attack it with detail tonight:)

So so so full!
Had a great night last night. Jem and I went to this fantastic little Italian restaurant near us. Their food is magnificent. I mean it is just close your eyes and make a big mmmmmmmmmmmmmm sound style food. It was sooooooo nice, even when we were 100% full (and prob should have stopped eating) we made sure we finished our deserts simply because they tasted that good:) Well today we're paying for it with massive stomach aches - I don't think I'll eat for a week. Was it worth it? You bet your arse!

OLDER - Self Portrait Wednesday
I hate that we age. It's immensely unfair and just so damn inconvenient. I turn29 tomorrow and it sucks. It sucks big time as next is the rechid 30! I plan to grab hold of 29 for as long as possible. I'm not letting 29 out my sight, not on my watch! Unfortunately 29 will come and go, and I'll be 30 before I know it. I truly feel like I'm running against the clock to achieve all the goals I've set myself in life. For some reason I feel I have to get a chunk of them done by 30. Which is ridiculous and more to the point impossible. I think it's best not to think about it:) I'm very happy and that's all that matters.

Finished for now...
I painted for about 3.5 hours last night. Sounds like a long time, though it actually flew. I'm leaving this one for now. I'll start the last 2 tonight - and go back to this one in a couple of weeks. It's pretty much done - just needs a little work on the clothing, and there will yellow decorations hanging down from her hair over the black area. Anyway, enjoy:

Sold!
Saturday morning I was thrilled to learn I'd sold a painting at a local art auction. I was absolutely over the moon and wore a permanent grin all day. It's a great feeling to sale, and it really makes it all seem worth while. Also my very talented friend Michelle Giacobello also sold 2 pieces - so it was a success all round!
I didn't get much painting done this weekend. There was simply no time, though I did manage to squeeze some in last night. Here ya go:

Misty
I was quite surprised this morning to find Melbourne (well in my area anyway) covered head to toe in a thick blanket of mist. It was absolutely fantastic! As I drove along Orrong Rd I was treated to a sea of dim headlights within the cloudy atmos. It looked amazing! It gave the usually ordinary street a dark dream like quality, that I think suited it quite well:) Maybe I should move to Scotland or somewhere equally as misty:)
Back to painting. Here's what I did last night. As I always say - still much to do!

A Geisha face forms...
It was pretty cold last night. So much so I felt more comfortable sitting on the couch with Jem snuggled under a blanket whilst watching a movie. As warm and toastie as it was though, I did manage to squeeze in some short spurts of painting during certain parts of the movie. When I got cold again I would make a mad dash for the lounge and dive back under the blanket. In total I think I would have achieved about an hour and a half of painting - here's what happened...
Still masses of work to do:)

Geisha x 4
A few day ago I was invited to exhibit at an art show late July - AHHHH! As it's only a few months away I've decided to enter my large Geisha (when done) and three little Geisha paintings. I purchased the smaller canvases on the weekend and have already made a start on a little one. So I currently have two on the go, though I'm hoping to have four on the go ASAP.
VERY early stages!

Hair today.....
Well I attacked the Geisha's hair last night. As her hair is perfectly rounded, it was important to ensure it didn't resemble a mushroom or a pin cushion - I'm happy to say I don't think that's the case. I still have a final layer of detail to apply to the hair - though I can't do that until it drys. Once the hair is done though, I can whack on all of her decorations that will hang from her hair. I also need to lighten the background so it contrasts with the dark hair better and work on the gown and collar ( I haven't even touched the collar yet) - and then I'm hoping to hell it's done! haha Here's an update pic - the hair and background have come out much darker than in reality. Enjoy..............

Big Painting Session!

Painting Progress
Had a pretty productive weekend painting wise. It's funny how you duck in to do five minutes worth of painting, and then find yourself doing 2 hours worth instead:) I'm still working on the face and clothing, though hope to start on the hair tonight. We'll see how it goes. I'm finding the level of detail to be never ending. I'm going to have to just say 'that's enough detail, move on'. The level of detail can suck you in big time. Knowing when to stop is very important, and something I'm still trying to master.

WINTER!
I love Winter. It's easily my favorite season. There's something very comforting about being inside while it's cold, wet and windy outside. Love it! I've recently moved our little heater into my painting room and it's making a big difference. I've been cranking the heat up while playing crappy 80s movies on my Mac as I paint - Bliss! Winter also makes coffee, soup and hot chocolate taste that much better. Lastly winter allows one to rug up like an Eskimo - and hey, who doesn't love that! Bring on under 10 degree days!
