My parents called me yesterday with the sad news that our family dog 'Roy' had passed away. I guess I never thought he was getting older, and just assumed he would keep on going on. It's going to be very strange visiting my parents now, not having Roy go crazy greeting me at the front door. Some might think it silly (as he was a dog), though he was part of the family for a long time and will be missed terribly :)

Future Painting #4
I just came across a photo on Face Hunter that appealed to me instantly. Maybe it was all of her skull and cross bone paraphernalia that sparked my interest) Whatever the reason, this photo will inspire art! I have taken this photo into photoshop, and manipulated the colour, contrast, shadows, background etc.... I've also slapped on some graffiti on the back wall to make it more interesting, and hopefully give it more of an urban vibe. I like this one so much I may do it next. Take a look:

Illustration Friday - I Spy!
This is a very poor quality photograph of a very quick cartoon. With that in mind, I hope you enjoy it:)

Progress...
Very happy with how this painting is progressing. I don't seem to be fighting with this one, it's kind of just unfolding before me - which is great! There is still obviously much to do, though I know it's heading in the right direction (touch wood).

Looking Back..
I was just going through some old photographs and found one I didn't know I had. It's of a painting during it's development from some time ago. In many ways I think the piece looks much better here than it does framed and on the wall. I guess this picture makes it feel more real and hands on, showing it 'warts and all'. Just thought I'd share:)

One down, three to go!
After much painting on Saturday, I managed to finish my painting at 12:30am. It was a long day of painting, though I think the time spent paid off in the end. I'm very pleased with how it turned out:) The photo is a lot darker than it actually is...
Also Yvan from Face Hunter has been kind enough to post my painting on his site:) Thanks Yvan. Check out his pics while you're there - great stuff!
Oh, I also started my next painting last night - not much to show at this stage, though am happy with my progress thus far.

A Big Weekend of PAINTING!
My aim for this weekend is to finish my current painting and to start the next. With my wife visiting her parents this weekend, I'll be home alone spending 90% of the time in my painting room. Jem will have the car also, which will put a stop to any temptations of leaving the flat:) So all going well I'll have a couple of pics for you on Monday...........if you're good:)

Modified photo to use as reference
Have just modified a photo to use as reference material for a future painting. Have cropped her face and given her a cigarette with a puff of smoke for good measure.

The Start of a Glass
I didn't plan on painting last night. I had every intention of going to gym and then just relaxing for the night. This did not happen. I got home from work, got ready for gym and then thought I'd just paint for 5 min before I go. Well lets just say I couldn't stop. So she now has the
Self Portrait Wednesday
This tattoo is a constant reminder of how boredom can drive one to do very impulsive things! One boring Sunday afternoon I suddenly found myself in some Tattoo parlour on Chapel St getting a bat tattooed on my left shoulder. I don't regret it, though often think if I hadn't been incredibly bored that day I wouldn't have this tattoo today:)

Nearly there!
Lots and lots of painting on the long weekend, though unfortunately I didn't finish my painting. Not too much left to do. Mainly the hand and the rest of the body need more detail. Oh, I also need to put the glass in her hand:) The hand may look large - though it's like that in the ref photo - as it's close to the camera. The hand also needs lots of work. Here's a pic...

Getting SO ahead of myself!!!!!
Had a fantastic night of painting last night - and am now pretty sure I'll get it done by the end of the long weekend. YAY!
Well I've picked yet another photo to use as a reference for one of my four paintings. I love the Clash T she's wearing - and know that I'll have so much fun painting that bit:)
Take a look...

Getting ahead of myself................but what the hell:)
For my next painting I've selected a great photograph to work from. I've altered it slightly in Photoshop to give it an interesting look, which will hopefully be replicated in the painting. Here's the pic:

Hide!
Still yet to find my glasses! So extreme squinting yet again:(
Had a great night painting last night - and will post a pic soon. I'm very very very happy with it so far, and can't wait to get back into it tonight!
Here's a quick cartoon I did last night for illustration Friday:

Painting, painting and more painting...
It's been a busy week painting every free second available. Still working on the acrylic piece, and have been so damn fussy while painting the face. Nearly done with it, I hope. Just a few final touches and it should be done....for now. I'm still getting the hang of acrylic, though have a much better understanding of how it works than when I began. I've decided I must get this one finished by the end of the coming long weekend. I have three more equally detailed pieces to complete by May, so time is everything! My wife Jemma has been very supportive though, as she surprised me by cleaning all the rubbish out of the spare room in order to give me more room to paint, and she even bought me more paints! She's been great, and very understanding about me spending all my time painting.
Will post a pic tomorrow....
PS: If I've made any errors with my spelling or grammar - it's only because left my reading glasses at home! I'm squinting big time! The computer screen is a blur!
